Refugee Program Specialist

POSITION SUMMARY:

Responsible assisting in the coordination of scheduling refugee and immigrant care across Affinia Healthcare site locations. Responsible for assisting in specific electronic documentation of refugee health visits, referrals, and specialty medical visits to ensure quality care is being provided to newly arrived refugees. Provide education and linkage to community resources for successful integration of newly arrived refugee families.

POSITION QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

Education:

Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience in health-related field, population health, public health, or social work. Fluency in English and another language (Spanish, Farsi/Dari, Pashto, Swahili, or Arabic) preferred.

Experience:

1. 3 years working in a community health setting, public health, or similar setting.
2. Experience in collaborating with refugees, immigrants, and/or other similar diverse populations.

Skills and Abilities (which may be representative but not all inclusive of those commonly, associated with this position):

1. Strong computer skills, intermediate proficiency in MS Office and electronic health records.
2. Working knowledge of the overall refugee resettlement process.
3. Demonstrates perspective in cultural humility and experience working with international populations.
4. Strong attention to detail: must be highly flexible, and able to keep multiple assignments moving forward with a focus on continuous improvement.
5. Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
6. Excellent communication skills, including strong presentation and writing skills.
7. Ability to maintain confidentiality.
8. Ability to train and educate staff, patients, and partners.
9. Ability to work collaboratively with internal departments and external organizations.

Transportation Requirement: Must possess a valid driver's license and automobile with insurance coverage as required by the State of Missouri.

License(s)/Certificate(s):

1. CPR certification required.

FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB

Essential Functions

1. Assists with scheduling health visits for newly arrived refugees.
2. Assists with data entry and documentation of refugee status and health information in an electronic data base of newly arrived refugees.
3. Coordinates with external organizations to identify the specific needs of a certain refugee population and promote awareness of Affinia Healthcare's programs and services, and timely access to care.
4. Assists with updating and maintaining a resource list of external organizations and partners who provide support services to refugees/immigrants.
5. Demonstrates Affinia Healthcare's values while promoting awareness of refugee populations in terms of cultural and historical background, to achieve an outcome of community acceptance, equity and understanding for the refugee population.
6. Provides education and linkage to resources for newly arrived refugee families.
7. Assists in the development of processes and systems to promote successful and consistent integration of refugee services and support at all site locations.
8. Administers mental health screenings to new arrived refugees (RHS-15) during initial or second health screenings.
9. Provides direct service support when needed.
10. Performs other duties as assigned.

Marginal Functions:

1. Routinely attends quarterly Refugee Meeting with USCRI and other community partners.
2. Participates in internal or external committees, as assigned.
3. Participates in departmental, organizational, and quality meetings.
