Quality Improvement Specialist

POSITION SUMMARY: The Quality Improvement Specialist RN will participate in measuring, analyzing, and trending information to improve patient outcomes. They will assure ongoing monitoring of performance to ensure improvements are sustained. The role requires that the individual interfaces with a diverse range of clinical and administrative professionals to resolve complex policy and service issues and reporting activities. Guides performance, process and quality improvement efforts directed at continually improving care and service and advancing evidence-based practices across the organization. This position participates in identifying initiatives through evaluation of population needs and in alignment with organizational goals. The Quality Improvement Specialist RN will facilitate and assist in processes to identify inefficiencies, monitor the effectiveness of quality systems, and make value- added recommendations to improve the quality of service.

POSITION QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

Education: Bachelor's degree in an area of Healthcare, Informatics or Public Health. Masters preferred.

Experience:

  • 1-3 years of experience in Quality Improvement
  • 1 year of experience in a healthcare setting, community health preferred
  • 1 year of experience in meeting regulatory and accreditation requirements
  • Experience in application of process improvement methodologies

Skills and Abilities which may be representative but not all inclusive of those commonly associated with this position:

  1. High comfort level in creating and knowing when it is appropriate to use lean/six sigma tools such as control charts, balance scorecards, PDSA, DMAIC, RCA, A3, FEMA and Pareto charts in a situation.
  2. Time and project management skills.
  3. Solid background in facilitation skills, process analysis tools and quality methodology application
  4. Excellent oral, interpersonal, and written skills, including preparation of meaningful narrative reports.
  5. Ability to validate report data and complete chart audits
  6. Understanding of Population Health and Social Determinants of Health.
  7. Working knowledge of Patient Centered Medical Home and The Joint Commission standards
  8. Demonstrate problem solving skills and analytical ability
  9. Working knowledge of HEDIS quality measures and reporting for care management.
  10. 10. Detail-oriented with demonstrated, highly developed organizational skills
  11. Capable of working autonomously while being a team member as well as a team leader.
  12. High degree of personal accountability and integrity demonstrated
  13. Excellent computer skills including the use of MS Office, SQL, and e-mail software.
  14. Working knowledge of NextGen EHR/EDR and practice management systems.
  15. Ability to manage multiple projects and initiatives regularly

Transportation Requirement:

  1. Must possess a valid driver's license and automobile with insurance coverage as required by the State of Missouri.
  2. License(s)/Certification(s) Required: CPHQ or LSSGB /SSGBC, and RN required, CPHRM, Lean Project Management, Lean Six Sigma Green Belt, or RN, preferred
  3. CPR Required

FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB

Essential Functions

  1. Acts as a consultant to mentor internal quality teams in project management and lean methodologies toward meeting Quality Improvement Plan goals.
  2. Perform care process, workflow, and outcome audits as necessary to meet The Joint Commission, HRSA, NCQA and other regulatory body requirements.
  3. Monitors progress for performance and quality improvement initiatives to ensure improvements are maintained.
  4. Capture data on survey defined inefficiencies, complete a root cause analysis, and collaborate with departments or teams toward next steps.
  5. Engage in efforts to prepare for regulatory audits, which may include departmental education, trainings/ meetings, and mock surveys.
  6. Compile monthly and quarterly required reports with narratives for various audiences.
  7. Educate workforce on the use of process improvement tools.
  8. Regular use of lean/six sigma tools to analyze, define, and document process.
  9. Act as a change agent to promote organizational improvements and helps to support a culture of continuous quality improvement.
  10. Partner with subject matter experts to implement reliable, consistent, and standardized processes with outcomes that are measurable and sustained.
  11. Perform other duties as assigned
