Medical Assistant - Pediatrics

POSITION SUMMARY: Perform the duties required to provide support for providers in all aspects of patient care under the supervision of a licensed nurse within a defined scope of care.

POSITION QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

Education: Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant Program.

Experience required:

1. Two to five years' of experience as a Pediatric Medical Assistant.
2. A minimal of 2 years of PEDS experience.

Skills and Abilities: which may be representative but not all inclusive of those commonly associated with this position:

1. Ability to perform accurate blood drawing techniques.
2. Ability to maintain confidentiality and comply with HIPAA policies and procedures.
3. Ability to multi-task and adapt to changing schedules.
4. Good organization skills.
5. Good verbal communication skills.ood computer skill including the use of word processing and e-mail software.

Transportation Requirement: Must possess a valid driver's license and automobile with insurance coverage as required by the State of Missouri.

License(s)/Certification(s) Required:

1. Certified Medical Assistant (CMA).
2. Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) Certification preferred.
3. CPR Certification.

FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB

Essential Functions

1. Performs patient intake (i.e. blood pressures, temperatures, pulse, respirations, weights and measurements) on patients for medical examination.
2. Performs tests (i.e. vision tests and hearing screens).
3. Gives medications/immunizations as ordered per route (oral, intramuscular, subcutaneous, and sub-dermal).
4. Notifies Clinic Nurse Coordinator, Clinic Facilitator and Provider of abnormal vital signs, blood glucose, or EKG results.
5. Prepares, maintains exam rooms assuring that they are cleaned and stocked; performs sterilization of instruments.
6. Responsible for general office procedures.
7. Perform other duties as assigned.

Marginal Functions:

1. Assist with primary care appointments.
2. Assist with orientation and training of new Medical Assistants, students, and volunteers.
