Manager - Patient Referrals

POSITION SUMMARY: Perform the duties required to manage the patient referrals department.

POSITION QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS


Education: Bachelor's Degree or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience or in health care administration, nursing or related field.


Experience:

  1. Three (3) years' experience in health administration and supervision in a health care setting.
  2. Knowledge of patient referral systems
  3. Experience utilizing an electronic medical record system.
  4. Ambulatory health care experience preferred.

Skills and Abilities which may be representative but not all inclusive of those commonly associated with this position:

  1. Excellent organizational skills.
  2. Good computer skills including the use of database, word processing and e-mail software.
  3. Demonstrated ability to understand and put into practice new directives in a short period of time.
  4. Ability to take on large amount of responsibility and work in a fast paced, changing environment.
  5. Knowledge of third-party reimbursement required.
  6. Demonstrated ability to use initiative, flexible and attentive to detail.
  7. Ability to direct and monitor workflow to improve productivity.
  8. Organize and lead training sessions for referral staff and other agency personnel.
  9. Good written and oral communication skills including preparation of reports and proposals.

Transportation Requirement:

  1. Must possess a valid driver's license and automobile with insurance coverage as required by the State of Missouri.

FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB

Essential Functions:

1. Direct staff functions including scheduling, interviewing and hiring, workflow, performance evaluations and promotions for specialty referral staff.

2. Evaluate staff performance and provide feedback in a timely manner, documenting and administering corrective action, as necessary.

3. Supervise the process of making and monitoring referrals to specialists as documented by clinicians, including the timely follow up for proper disposition of all completed appointments to ensure results are obtained and documented in patient charts, missed appointments are followed up and documented in the EHR system.

4. Serve as a working manager to process urgent referrals, process referrals to assure timely processing within standards and fill-in for staff while on leave and PTO.

5. Assist with the collection of statistical data to reflect patient care, utilization of services and to meet medical and administrative needs.

6. Prepare budget requests and operate within approved budget

7. Perform other duties as assigned.

Marginal Functions:

1. Serve as a resource for documentation issues.

2. Provide assistance to the medical, dental and nursing staff in performing patient care studies or research.
