Dental Mobile Driver / Registration Specialist

POSITION SUMMARY: Support the mobile health program by serving as a driver for the mobile medical and/or dental unit. Responsibilities also include assisting with the collection of demographic information, registering the patient, and entering necessary information in an electronic database.

POSITION QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

Education: High School graduate or equivalent.

Experience:

1. Two (2) years' experience driving a mobile health unit or vehicle comparative in size (38' long).
2. Two (2) years' experience working with children and /or neighborhood outreach.
3. Two (2) years' experience in a health care setting or related field.
4. Two (2) years' experience in customer service.

Skills and Abilities which may be representative but not all inclusive of those commonly associated with this position:

1. Computer skills, including the use of word processing e-mail software, Microsoft Word and Excel.
2. Ability to accurately interview patients in order to complete patient registration forms and data entry.
3. Ability to take initiative, detail oriented and flexible.
4. Good oral and written communication, customer service, and organizational skills.
5. Good record keeping skills.
6. Ability to safely drive and park 40' long vehicle.

Transportation Requirement:

Must possess a valid driver's license and an automobile with insurance coverage as required by the State of Missouri.

License(s)/Certification(s) Required: Driver's License Class E (Commercial Driver's License, Class B preferred) CPR Certification

FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB

Essential Functions

1. Coordinate safe, efficient use of the mobile units by driving the mobile units to and from select community locations. Ensure that proper procedures and guidelines are followed for the safe transport of staff each day. Maintain Driver's licensure requirements.
2. Maintain excellent vehicle preventative maintenance, both interior and exterior of mobile health unit(s). Maintain daily checklists and maintenance logs. Troubleshoot, document, and report any malfunctions of the mobile unit to the Director of Community Health and Facilities Director.
3. Pre-trip appropriate routes for the mobile unit, to ensure safe driving considering the size of the mobile unit.
4. Participate in stocking mobile health unit(s) with necessary office supplies and medical equipment.
5. Assist in developing an emergency plan for staff, children, and families seen on the mobile health unit. Participate in periodic safety drills.
6. Obtain and review patient consent forms from each site to document necessary demographic information accurately into database.
7. Review policies and regulations such as HIPAA with the patients, parents/guardians and others, as needed.
8. Work with team and other driver(s) to maximize the most efficient use of screening time. Ensure that patient flow to and from mobile health unit is smooth, coordinated, and efficient. Work closely with mobile health unit staff to provide timely delivery of daily reports.
9. Contribute to the delivery of health screens by assisting with measuring patient heights and weights.
10. Perform age level appropriate health education segments when appropriate.
11. Functions as point of contact for school-based program.
12. Responsible for verifying insurance, looking up Medicaid numbers, making appointments, and escorting patients to the operatory.
13. Perform other duties as assigned.

Marginal Functions

1. Assist with educating staff regarding the handling of HIPAA patient complaints.
2. Assist with mobile unit maintenance.
