Dental Biller

POSITION SUMMARY:  Perform the duties required to assist in the operations of the billing department. Duties include posting payments, working with denied claims, and sorting and coding source documents.

POSITION QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

Education:  High School graduate or equivalent.  Billing school certification preferred.

Experience: One (1) year experience in dental insurance claims processing required.  Prior experience processing medical insurance claims helpful. 

Skills and Abilities which may be representative but not all inclusive of those commonly associated with this position:

1. Type 40 wpm and 10-key by touch.
2. Microsoft Office applications, Windows and internet literate.
3. Able to verify patient eligibility and explain benefits to patients.
4. Knowledge of HMO, PPO and dental insurance billing; able to handle A/R for dental and medical accounts.
5. Medical and dental terminology, ICD-9, ICD-10, CPT-4, CDT and HCPCS.
6. Experience working with medical/ dental practice management and electronic medical/dental records software, NextGen preferred.
7. Ability to communicate well, both verbally and written.
8. Detail oriented.

Essential Functions

1. Charge posting and charge error correction.
2. Post payments in the NextGen system adhering to Affinia Healthcare billing standards.
3. Obtain pre-authorizations and referrals for services and procedures.
4. Follow-up and investigate billing errors, denials or rejections returned from payers by utilizing online/telephonic resources to identify, research and appeal negative decisions for positive claim resolution.
5. Work with billing staff and other departments to obtain supporting documentation to submit to payers to ensure timely payment for services, (e.g. medical/ dental notes, consent forms, EOBs, etc).
6. Routinely communicate with payers and patients regarding delinquent or denied claims, addressing issues, and clearing barriers to payment (e.g. verifying patient eligibility, patient benefits, provider participation/ credentialing issues, etc).
7. Suggest billing component changes as necessary for payers.
8. Manage and maintain outstanding patient balances by sending patient statements, making payment plans and arrangements, and processing and posting patient payments.
9. Performs other duties as assigned.
