Controller

POSITION SUMMARY: Provide leadership and direction over financial reporting and planning as well as the ability to develop and implement accounting policy and procedure.

POSITION QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

Education: Bachelor's degree in accounting from an accredited university/college required

Experience: Requires

• Seven (7) to ten (10) years of finance/accounting and business operation experience with a diverse knowledge of financial and business functions.
• Minimum five (5) years of managerial/supervision experience, including training, onboarding, and career development.
• Proficient in computer software and computer operations as they relate to accounting functions.

Skills and Abilities which may be representative but not all inclusive of those commonly associated with this position:

1. Knowledge of finance, accounting, budgeting, and cost-control principles, practices, and applications.
2. Skill in analyzing and evaluating accounting and internal control methods and financial reports.
3. Skill in assessing and prioritizing multiple tasks, projects, and demands.
4. Knowledgeable in Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and aware of changes affecting the organization.
5. Knowledge of and/or experience in the Health Care industry (desirable).
6. Strong (hands-on) computer skills, including the use of general ledger, word processing, spreadsheet, and e-mail software.
7. Excellent written and oral communication skills, including preparation of meaningful narrative reports and proposals.
8. Ability to communicate with diverse groups, both inside and outside of the agency.
9. Knowledge of and/or experience in not-for-profit regulations and accounting practices, including OMB A-122 and Single Audit requirements as well as Health Care Industry reporting practice and requirements.

Residency and Transportation Requirement: Must possess a valid driver's license and automobile with insurance coverage as required by the State of Missouri.

License(s)/Certification(s) Required: Active certified public accountant license

FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB

Essential Functions

1. Responsible for overall maintenance and accuracy of the general ledger, including the review of original documentation for accuracy and integrity.
2. Manages and monitors daily cash transactions to ensure appropriate organizational cash flow, including determination of weekly check runs, funding of payroll, and collection of accounts receivables.
3. Manages and coordinates the activities of accounts payable, payroll, benefits and purchasing, including the acquisition of bids from vendors and oversight of outside payroll service.
4. Assists IT with computer programs related to finance and accounting and ensures adequate employee training on those programs.
5. Handles banking and vendor relationships as they relate to procurement and payment processing.
6. Assists Affinia Healthcare employees with GL coding issues, accounting forms and procedures, payroll issues, and purchasing issues.
7. Monitors and maintains fixed asset system, including the supervision of the physical inventory.
8. Oversees monthly close of books and reporting process, including reconciliation of all balance sheet accounts.
9. Oversees annual independent financial audit process, including preparation of audit schedules and analyses.
10. Handles periodic audits by granting agencies, workers compensation, and other required independent agencies.
11. Makes recommendations on investing excess cash within the parameters set by the finance committee.
12. Assists CFO in maintaining and implementing adequate internal controls.
13. Assists CFO in developing and implementing accounting policy and procedures.
14. Assists CFO in developing and monitoring organization budgets, including individual department budgets.
15. Performs other duties as assigned or required.

Marginal Functions

1. Participate in overall department planning.
2. Work with other departments in developing and implementing policy and procedure related to financial transactions.

Supervises: Senior Accountant, Staff Accountant, Accounts Payable coordinator, Payroll & Benefit Administrator, and Purchasing coordinator.
