Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist

POSITION SUMMARY: The Child Psychiatrist is responsible for providing a variety of complex psychiatric services in the diagnosis and treatment of mentally ill or emotionally disturbed children. Factors affecting the child such as environment, family, and peer interaction are considered. Work entails conducting psychiatric examinations, diagnosing and treatment, and evaluating progress. Treatment includes medication, prescription and psychiatric care. The Child Psychiatrist collaborates with the Pediatric Neurologist and with other members of the Affinia Healthcare multidisciplinary team to treat children - resulting in cost-effective coordinated care.

POSITION QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS


Education:
1. Graduate of an accredited school of medicine; higher qualification in psychiatry from an accredited
institution.
2. Licensed as a Psychiatrist in the State of Missouri.
3. Board certified or Board eligible


Experience:

1. Completed psychiatric residency. Preference is given to experience in an urban health setting.


Skills and Abilities which may be representative but not all inclusive of those commonly associated with this position:


1. Requires strong verbal communication skills.
2. Ability, skills, and knowledge to recognize, and treat patients of that specific specialty.
3. Has the Leadership ability to coordinate a Specific Project or Service.
4. Must be proficient in spoken and written English.


Transportation Requirement: Must possess a valid driver's license and automobile with insurance coverage as required by the State of Missouri.


License(s)/Certification(s) Required:

1. Maintain Medical license necessary for practice
2. Missouri BNDD and Federal DEA

FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB

Essential Functions

1. Complete physical, neurological, and mental examinations.
2. Treat medical, psychiatric, neurological problems.
3. Consult patients, their families, attorneys, teachers, other medical professional and others in interpreting clinical findings.
4. Conduct therapy sessions.
5. Provides primary care physician with recommendations for further evaluations and management.
6. Completes medical records and reports all non-medical procedures.
7. Refers patients as required to other health centers or hospitals for future testing and/ or treatment.
8. Prescribes medicine as appropriate.
9. Provides telephone consultation to patients and share on-call coverage.
10. Participates in staff meetings, department meetings, and staff committees.
11. Participates in record review, maintains productivity and quality standards established by federal guidelines and Center's Quality Improvement Program.
12. Performs other duties as assigned.


Marginal Functions


1. Cooperates in preparing claims for third party insurance billing.
2. Contributes ideas for improvement of health center operations.
3. Participates in community health education and prevention efforts.
4. Attend provider meetings.


Supervises: Nurse Practitioners /Students/Residents/ Volunteers as needed
