Adult Behavioral Health Counselor

POSITION SUMMARY: Perform the duties required to resolve or assist in the resolution of Substance Abuse or Chemical Dependency for homeless patients. Integrate substance abuse and chemical dependency care into the patients' primary health care needs.

POSITION QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

Education: Master's Degree; LPC or LCSW Preferred

Experience:
1. Three years experience in a health care or mental health field setting providing direct services including but not limited to: intake, diagnostic, screening, crisis intervention, substance abuse treatment, trauma informed and therapeutic services.
2. One to three years experience working in a community health center preferred.
3. One to three years experience working with high risk population preferred.
4. One to three years experience working with mental health population preferred
Skills and Abilities which may be representative but not all inclusive of those commonly associated with this position:
1. Excellent problem solving. skills
2. Familiarity with prescription and non-prescription medication.
3. Excellent mental health diagnostic and counseling skills, CBT skills and brief therapy techniques
4. Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
5. Motivational interviewing skills and an understanding of social work and behavior health terminology.
6. Good computer skills including the use of word processing and familiarity with Electronic Medical Records.
7. Good written and oral communications skills in preparation of reports and treatment summaries.
Transportation Requirement: Must possess a valid driver's license and automobile with insurance coverage as required by the State of Missouri.

License(s)/Certification(s): Licensed Clinical Social Worker or Licensed Professional Counselor Preferred. Substance Abuse Certification Preferred.

FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB

Essential Functions:

1. Emphasis on providing treatment to homeless population; adolescents and adults.
2. Weekly visits to homeless access agencies for homeless population.
3. Provide substance abuse screening, treatment and follow up services.
4. Administer, score and interpret MOSBIRT.
5. Provide crisis intervention including risk assessment to patients referred by their PCP.
6. Provide substance abuse treatment for patients with co-morbidities of mental illness and/or chronic illness.
7. Treatment include but not limited to, individual, groups and family treatment.
8. Address social and emotional factors related to the patient's health care problems.
9. Coordinate treatment plan with the PCP and the Psychiatrist as appropriate.
10. Refer patients to appropriate facility when further services are required; conducts follow-up on referrals.
11. Familiarity with community resources.
12. Refer for Urinalysis when deemed appropriate.
13. Accepts referrals, provide consultation and serve as a resource to other GH programs.
14. Coordinate the Integrated Mental Health Care for patients with other services provided by the agency.
15. Maintain therapeutic and reimbursement records according to state and agency standards.
16. Report writing and oral communication with medical providers and staff as appropriate in clinic.
17. Thorough documentation in EMR (Electronic Medical Record).
18. Perform other duties as assigned.

Marginal Functions:

1. Provide educational in-services to the department and organization.
2. Assist in coordinating special programs, e.g. community events.

Supervises: Students and volunteers as needed.
